Job Description

Job duties:

  • Design, implement and analyze scanning, acquisition, pointing and tracking control algorithms for space-laser communication systems
  • Support development of high fidelity satellite intra-communication algorithms, including laser pointing, guidance, and control design
  • Support requirements flowdown from system level to the various subsystems, manage compliance verification, generate system and subsystem test plan and test data review and review of hardware and software design implementation
  • Develop test systems for continuous integration, automated report generation and failure mode analysis
  • Support software configuration, version control and system documentation
  • Interface with software, avionics, optics, mechanical, ground terminal, and other teams to support requirements flow-down and system integration
  • Support troubleshooting of test data discrepancies
  • Continued support of satellites in orbit, including software upgrades, testing, data logging, and anomaly resolution


  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision in a fast paced environment
  • Experience with any of the following: orbital mechanics, opto-mechanical systems, satellite path planning, laser pointing systems
  • Nice to have : experience with C/C++ manual coding
  • Must have: experience with any scripting language, e.g. Python/R
  • 4+ years experience with Matlab/Simulink: modeling, simulation, stateflow, signal processing
  • 2+ year experience with the embedded control systems design, implementation and troubleshooting
  • Significant experience related to implementing control algorithm in real-time system with deep understanding of signal processing, control systems and/or robotics
  • Familiarity with the disciplines necessary for laser comm including: coordinate system conversion, avionics, GNC, dynamics, laser systems


Master's degree or higher in space/flight mechanics or control
