Job Description

At DICKS Sporting Goods, you will have the opportunity to learn from and work with the leaders of a growing Fortune 400 company. DICKS Sporting Goods is returning to campus this year; to recruit, train and develop top collegiate talent into well-rounded retail professionals, creating a talent pipeline to support future leadership needs.This two year program, based out of Pittsburgh, PA, will expose you to a broad range of business activities while working through one of two career paths: Accounting or Finance Analytics. Each functional program consists of four 6-month rotations in the key areas of the department with the opportunity for a flex rotation.Function Overviews:Accounting:o Accounting Operations: During this rotation, you will assist with monthly reporting of all Operational Accounting and prepare a quarterly report of key Account Payables metrics for financial reporting. You will have the opportunity to analyze various trending vendor issues that could pertain to payments, shipping issues, invoicing issues, or receiving issues.o Sales Audit & Inventory Control: Acting as a liaison between the store cash office, store management, finance and loss prevention groups, you will be responsible for ensuring that the POS data, revenue, cash deposits and any variances are recorded accurately, timely and complete.o Accounting: You will have an opportunity to participate in the accounting and financial reporting cycle of a public company. You will be responsible for ensuring certain expenses are properly recorded, researching variances to budget, and providing supporting work papers to our external auditors. Additionally, you will assist in the preparation of financial reports for senior management, the Board of Directors, external investors, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.o Internal Audit: For 6 months you will participate in physical inventory inspections and audits at DICKS Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy stores. In addition, you will participate in the execution of Sarbanes-Oxley testing and execute SOX testing schedules. Also, you will interact with various staff to manager level associates within the organization to further document IAs understanding of the financial and IT business processes and internal controls and assist Staff and Senior Auditors with Operational and Financial Audits and work on various special projects.Finance Analytics:o Financial Planning & Analysis: You will spend three 6-month rotations as a Financial Analyst. One rotation will focus on the Corporate FP team. The remainder of rotations will be spent on specific business functions such as Merchandising, eCommerce, Supply Chain, and others. These rotations include preparing the appropriate analysis and presenting the results to senior management, preparing competitor benchmarking and analysis, ad hoc analysis and reporting on current business trends.o Strategic Sourcing: During this 6 month rotation you will assist the team in the identification and execution of sourcing projects. This includes business process reviews, financial analysis, RFP development, supplier calls, eAuctions and contract negotiation. You will have the opportunity to work both on the project management as well as the technical sides of Strategic Sourcing.Potential Flex Rotations:o Tax: You will spend 6 months supporting the Tax Accounting team prepping various business licenses, annual reports, and ensuring timely implementation of tax rate changes across necessary functions.o Treasury: Throughout this rotation, you will partner cross-functionally to ensure a consistent and transparent procedure for cash flow across the entire 700 store chain.o Risk Management: This rotation will focus on obtaining and maintaining data integral to the development, implementation, and ongoing analysis and risk/insurance procurement programs.At your successful completion of this structured program, you will be placed into a full time role based on your overall performance throughout the rotations, your interest in an area and business needs.Key program experiences:An orientation to introduce you to the company, Pittsburgh, the program and your teammatesWorking closely with associates, who are experts in their area of businessFormal mid-point and final evaluations for each rotationInteraction with associates across all levels of the company including Senior ExecutivesOn the job training specific to your areaVarious professional development workshops and opportunitiesSkills we are looking for:A competitive spirit with a passion for resultsAn interest and confidence in working with data and numbers; strong mathematical/quantitative skills highly preferredDemonstrated leadership skills and ability to independently make data-driven recommendationsA curiosity and desire to learn about consumer and retail trends, including customer demographics, purchasing influencers and emerging technologyDynamic written and verbal communication style to read and write reports, as well as communicate cross functionally and vertically throughout the organizationAbility to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environmentWe look for potential candidates with:A bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting from an accredited college or universityStrong proficiency in ExcelThe willingness to relocate to Pittsburgh, PAOrganization: *CorporateTitle: Finance Development Program 2021Location: Pennsylvania-PittsburghRequisition ID: 20000GAX
