Join us in making a difference.ResponsibilitiesClient Engagement* Determine the primary need and discern the urgency of the presenting housing crisis.* Provide comprehensive housing assessments for the Housing Assessment Program (HAP) [utilizing the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)].* Assist with housing information and/or referrals with the goal of preventing homelessness and/or securing permanent housing.* Develop an "Action Plan" utilizing a strength-based and trauma informed approach with each consumer. The Action Plan will identify housing options and resources that are available to complement the consumer's needs, resources, and expectations.Service Coordination* Develop and maintain knowledge of social case work methods and techniques.* Maintain individual case records and statistical data of consumer participation and referrals and complete required reports and program outcome information.Recordkeeping and Reports* Provide and maintain community linkages as appropriate to the needs of the consumer and provide as much information to the consumer as possible.* In accordance with procedural protocols, maintain files on all program participants interviewed and/or served, including a description of the presenting problem, the worker's assessment of participant needs, and record of assistance given or action taken, i.e. the intervention plan.* Using the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) software, maintain statistical information on services provided and outcomes achieved.* Provide information needed for monthly and/or quarterly reports to Administration.Professional Ethics* Understand and adhere to professional ethics and boundaries.* Demonstrate a commitment to better understand other cultures and issues of social justice, and promote racial understanding and reconciliation.* Maintain confidentiality of participant information and obtain appropriate releases of information.* Maintain knowledge of social service trends and provide insight and feedback to assist The Salvation Army in development and improvement of services.QualificationsEducation* A Bachelor of Social Work degree or related field, and experience with social services case management.* Basic understanding of issues facing people in poverty and crises with a commitment and desire to assist individuals and families achieve stability, health, wholeness and independence.* Proven communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to interact positively with individuals, colleagues and collateral agencies.* Bilingual persons encouraged to apply.Experience* At least one year experience in social work or social service field.* Experience working with low-income populations preferred.Skills* Skilled in interviewing clients / customers and in assessing social service cases.* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.* Effective oral and written communication skills.* Computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word; bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.General Conditions* Compliance with criminal background investigation protocol.* Must possess current State of Michigan driver's license.
