This role is responsible for providing direction to the teams, in planning and estimating software development projects, weekly collection of tracking metrics and status reporting, and monthly forecasting and budgeting. The role is also responsible for leading the project retrospectives and lessons learned sessions with the team after each project. This role requires the successful candidate to possess the following competencies:
  • A PMP certification plus 5-10 years of hands on project management experience
  • Strong grasp of the following PM competencies: planning and estimation, Quality Assurance, Communications, Status tracking and Reporting, Budgeting and forecasting
  • Ability to see the forest as well as the trees - track details on multiple action items, projects, and tasks while stepping back to see the big picture on how everything fits together to point out overlaps as well as gaps
  • Ability to take complete ownership of assigned tasks
  • Ability to multi-task, while maintaining high quality results
  • Very strong coordination and follow-through on multiple projects/tasks, especially with PMs and managers, offering guidance and direction based on knowledge of best practices used on the NCMMIS program
  • Reliability and integrity - provide honest assessments and opinions
  • Ability to proactively identify and communicate issues as early as possible and offer solutions to resolve problems
  • Extensive understanding of all aspects of software development life cycle. Strong process knowledge, including Agile methodology as adapted for use on the NCMMIS program
  • Excellent communications skills, including listening and capturing key decisions in meetings for notes/summaries and reports
  • Flexibility in dealing with changing project direction. Ability to approach tasks with adaptable attitude when working with others to determine the best, most efficient course of action
  • Lifelong learner exhibiting a desire to learn new skills and be an early adopter of new tools
  • In-depth knowledge of MS-Excel - creating, maintaining workbooks that include formulas, charts/graphs, pivots, and macros
  • Strong knowledge of MS-Word and MS-Powerpoint
