Section 3: PURPOSE OF JOB

  • Be a lead technical authority for LEO Landing Station data path solutions
  • Provide technical expertise in the development, deployment, validation and operation of equipment and software that processes high throughput layer 2 data streams
  • Manage technical relationships with suppliers;
  • Planning, support and execution of end-to-end production network and lab validation tests

 

Section 4: MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain technical requirements for Telesat LEO Constellation Landing
  • Station data path equipment and software
  • Develop RFPs and Statements of Work for development and supply of the LEO
  • Landing Station data path solution
  • Identify technical compliance testing and product assurance requirements
  • Monitor technical compliance and quality of product produced by suppliers
  • Recommend and contribute to improvements to LEO system as a whole

 

SECTION 5: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • B.Eng., Masters or Ph.D. software or network engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in networking software
  • Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Solid understanding of DPDK, VPP, XDP, eBPF
  • Solid knowledge in CPU architectures (memory BUS, PCI bus, L1/L2/L3 cache) including Intel processors or ARM and in virtualization environments
  • Strong coding experience in C, C++ for embedded/real-time applications
  • Strong multithreading and performance-oriented programming skills
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals, including application layer, firewalls (Linux iptables), IPsec, BGP, OSPF, VXLAN, MPLS and MEF
  • Experience using testing equipment and simulators
  • Experience developing procurement requirements
  • Experience developing and executing acceptance testing plans and procedures
  • Solid knowledge of ISOC and IETF standards
  • Knowledge of network communications over satellite
  • Familiar with modern network control and management protocols
  • Familiar with cybersecurity principals and best practices
  • Excellent communicator
  • Ability to summarize complex problems, solutions and recommendations
  • Fluent in English, written and oral

 

SECTION 6: DECISION MAKING & SUPERVISION:

  • Develops and recommends solutions related to design, testing, acceptance and operation of feeder link modems;
  • Make decisions about task priorities as required as a project technical lead.

  • There is no direct reporting staff but this role may be expected to lead multidisciplinary project teams and/or provide technical assistance or guidance to other engineers or specialists

 

SECTION 7: WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Majority of the time is expected to be in a generally comfortable office environment
  • Occasional work in a light industrial environment, including outdoors
  • Travel, support of projects across multiple time zones and other project requirements may require overtime
  • Occasional international travel may be required; therefore, candidates will need to provide proof that they have no national/international travel or visa restrictions

 

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
