Job Summary

Responsible for providing strategic leadership and executive oversight to all aspects of the Software Development and Engineering department's projects and activities. Develops and implements strategies and works with project personal to develop project standards and performance metrics. Works with Supervisors and Managers to ensure all applications meet project specifications and requirements. Provides leadership and direction for team which may include multiple functional areas. Develops and implements strategy for functional area(s). May have responsibility for developing and managing budget.

Job Description

 We are looking for an experienced Engineering Director, Front-End and Client Dev to join our team. As an Engineering Director on our Smart TV Front-End team, you will use various methods and data engineering technologies to design, develop, and deliver Smart TV applications for video content streaming on different Smart TV platforms. To succeed in this Engineering Director, Front-End and Client Dev position, you should have strong skills in managing JavaScript applications, which access multiple server endpoints to receive, display the video metadata, and playout the video streams. This job also requires familiarity with code deployment onto the web servers by the build scripts. 

Core Responsibilities

Architect, design, develop the cross-platform Smart TV Applications

  • Develop new product concepts and deliver prototypes with the Product Team. Gather and finalize software requirements based on product requirements by translating design and wireframes into high-quality code.
  • Architect the systems by considering component separations, stabilities, non-functional features, data tracking, and long-term efficiency.
  • Work with other internal development teams to solve platform problems on each different platform.

Plan and manage the Frond-End development activities

  • Collaborate with Server Team, Data Team, Operation Team, Marketing Team to manage the development requirements and priorities, analyzing and discussing the necessity to find the best approach and solution.
  • Make decisions about what approach appropriate to solve the business/product problem by extending our feature set, managing a reusable component library, and improving our user experience. 

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree or Equivalent in Engineering or Computer Science
  • 7+ years of practical experience of developing client applications in online video streaming preferred
  • HTML5/JavaScript (JavaScript ES6+, CSS, HTML) 
  • Http/Https, JSON, XML
  • RESTful API
  • Code build and deployment: Jenkins, CircleCI
  • Video technologies: HLS, MP4, Mpeg-Dash
  • Video content protection technologies: Widevine, PlayReady, FairPlay.
  • Strong people leadership skills with demonstrated track record of developing team members and building an awesome culture by promoting collaboration, openness and accountability with their team, other departments and external partners.
